A girl named Rebel Cole, who has African American origins, works in the police department of Oakland city. She is proud of her rank as an officer and every day she fights against criminals on the streets of her city. Her colleagues have great respect for her, knowing that they can rely on her in any situation. She has repeatedly come to the aid of her fellow officers, risking her own life. However, some of her relatives and friends from her hometown, where mainly African Americans live, are skeptical of the US police system. One day, which started like any other, completely changes Rebel's life and her views on many things that seemed unchanging just yesterday. In an unclear situation, a police officer kills Rebel's own brother. A complex procedural investigation begins. Rebel herself wants to objectively understand the situation. She resigns from the police department and starts practicing as a private detective, but her main task is to shed light on all the details of that day when her loved one died in a seemingly absurd conflict. She finds herself on the other side of the system that she faithfully served for many years.
