Originally, the TV series had a working title "Abyss". The idea for the plot was taken from well-known sea myths.

In the coastal town, life goes on for years in a routine rhythm. Most of the residents of this town work on small fishing boats. It is the fishing industry that is the main opportunity to make a living in isolation from large metropolises. One day, during the usual process of raising nets, the crew of one of the fishing vessels sees among the fish caught in the nets a certain large object that breaks free with tremendous force and falls overboard. In the darkness and due to severe fatigue, no one could really make out what it was. Several fishermen, shocked by the sight, have no doubt that it was a real mermaid. Some consider this strange tale sheer nonsense, while others see it as a harbinger of bad events. One of the guys on that ship decides to find traces of the mythical creature that he believes exists. The mother is concerned about the boy's behavior. The woman tells her son that his father fell under the spell of a mermaid and died in the depths of the sea under unclear circumstances. Before that, he completely lost his mind. A mysterious girl appears in the town, who is laconic and behaves strangely. No one knows where she came from and what her true purpose is in visiting the provincial town.
