When elderly Silantyich is sent off on a well-deserved retirement, the head of the capital station hires a capable employee. Her choice falls on the reticent Kulygin, originally from Novosibirsk. The supervisor introduces the subordinate to colleagues and sincerely hopes that they will find a common language. On his first day at work, Konstantin manages to demonstrate leadership qualities and slightly puzzle his colleagues. He succeeds in performing a multitude of small feats. For example, saving a defenseless cat, pacifying a raging drunkard, and making the correct diagnosis for a surprised patient. He manages to convince skeptical members of the team that the patient is suffering from painless myocardial infarction. The astonished partners do not understand where an ordinary driver gained such experience. They begin to suspect that the man is hiding significant information from them. It turns out that in the past, Kostya was an excellent doctor and often saved lives. He unfairly lost his license and was prohibited from working as a doctor. The key character hopes to clear his good name and return to his former job.
