The series describes events that will take place on Earth in the twenty-seventh century. It is a distant future, so technology has advanced greatly. Humanity has managed to achieve the transfer of one person's consciousness into another's body. This problem had been agonized over for several centuries, and now it is finally solved. However, the invention is aimed not at prolonging life. Such a technological development simply could not pass by the criminal world. Now any criminal can move into the body of a police officer or a soldier. To perform the operation, it is only necessary to reach the device that is used for these complex manipulations. When the oligarch Bancroft gains access to the development, he creates several copies of himself that can carry out multiple transactions in different parts of the world simultaneously. But one day, he discovers that one of his bodies is dead. To investigate the complicated case, he hires former intelligence agent Takeshi Kovacs. He discovers that Bancroft's clone was killed, but it was staged to look like a suicide. However, all leads were destroyed along with the body's memory. The main character of this fantastic detective story will have to figure out where to start investigating this strange crime.
