The film company Kerry Ehrin Productions, producing the American crime drama "Bates Motel", announced on July 23, 2016 the cancellation of the series. This means that the 6th season of the show will not be released.

The finale of the fifth part took place on April 24, 2017. The broadcast is carried out on the TV channel "A&E". The plot focuses on a very strange family who decides to start a new life. For this, they move to a quiet, unremarkable town.

The main characters use their last savings to buy a huge house that belonged to the Summers dynasty. They hope that they will soon be able to turn the estate into a comfortable hotel. But attracting visitors turns out to be a difficult task. No one is in a hurry to rent a room on the outskirts of the city. Soon, the local sheriff comes to Norma, wanting to warn her not to make impulsive actions. But after a man claiming to be the owner of the mansion appears, everything completely spirals out of control. Norman assaults a woman, after which she ruthlessly kills her attacker. After that, a series of mysterious crimes occurs. The mother suspects that her beloved son is involved in the tragic incidents. But she doesn't doubt her younger child's soul and bravely protects the boy in any situation.

The key roles were played by Vera Farmiga, who starred in the films "Source Code" and "Law & Order", Freddie Highmore, a star of feature films "August Rush" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", Max Thieriot, who appeared in the films "Chloe" and "Catch That Kid", and many other actors. The project was honored with the Saturn Movie Award.

Russians were able to appreciate the premiere episode on October 27, 2014. In total, 50 gripping episodes were filmed. The script tells the story of a mother and son suffering from mental disorders. She has a second child, with whom she was in a fight, but the horrifying events forced her to reconcile with her close relative and ask for his help.
