The detective series "Luther" has been airing on BBC One since May 4, 2010. The series was created by Neil Cross, who openly admits that he drew inspiration for the script and direction of the show from "Columbo" and "Sherlock Holmes."

The TV show's plot revolves around the life of detective John Luther, who works as a senior inspector in the homicide investigation department of the London police. John has a talent for solving crimes, but often disregards official instructions and thereby breaks the law. In the first season, for his actions (not saving a serial killer from suicide), he is suspended from work by his superiors for over six months. This becomes the catalyst for the destruction of Luther's personal life - his wife leaves him for Mark North. The situation worsens after John returns to work. The first case he investigates is the murder of Alice Morgan's parents, who is a professor of astrophysics. Soon, the inspector realizes that Alice herself is responsible for these deaths but decides to stop the investigation. Shortly thereafter, a friendly relationship based on mutual assistance forms between Morgan and Luther, as someone tries to frame the detective...
