The events of the series begin in 1984. There is a military conflict in Afghanistan, in which the USSR is directly involved. The country is experiencing a new stage of development called perestroika, and the "Cold War" is in full swing. Against the backdrop of significant changes in the country's life, the relationship between two young lovers develops. Anna and Mitya love each other, but circumstances proved stronger and they had to part under the burden of problems that left them no choice. Anna's intellectual parents were declared dissidents and were forced to leave for the United States with their child. Mitya remains in the USSR alone. He struggles with the separation from his beloved. His father is a high-ranking general. Soon, the feelings of the young people become part of a complex operation organized by US intelligence to discredit the USSR. They arrange a meeting for the lovers on Afghan territory. There, the young people find themselves in a chain of very dangerous events.
