According to the plot of Nikolay Kapitan's series "Dog", which first aired on NTV, experienced detective Maxim Maximov finds it difficult to come to terms with his personal tragedy, which made him abandon his job and spend evenings in the company of strong alcohol. Betrayed by his best friend and colleague, his once passionately loved wife put an end to their family happiness, putting an end to their relationship.

The unexpected death of an experienced mentor and former father-in-law sobers up the policeman's mind. Maximov is ready to find the culprit of the tragedy despite any difficulties, but the professional killer did not leave any clues behind. All he can rely on in this case is the memory and scent of his deceased dog, who became the only witness to the murder and can therefore identify the identity of the criminal. Taking the furry eyewitness home, Maximov tries to establish a routine with the guest. Without having free access to classified archives and the ability to return to service, the hero could ask for help from his former colleagues, but it is this investigation that the authorities entrusted to the lover, who is now the husband of the key character's ex-wife. Maximov categorically refuses to cooperate with the traitor and does not believe in the former relative's suicide.
