The TV series "Roadside Picnic" is an adaptation of the eponymous literary work by Russian science fiction writers Boris and Arkady Strugatsky. The film was directed by American filmmaker Alan Taylor and its first season was released in 2018.

The events of the multi-series story unfold in a fantastic, non-existent country in the 1970s. At that time, unknown extraterrestrial life forms arrived on Earth. The aliens arrived for reasons unknown and disappeared in the same manner, as if they had never existed. The only trace that testified to their presence was mysterious zones that appeared after the extraterrestrial beings and became very dangerous for human life. At the center of the plot is a young man named Red, who is a stalker and used to work in one of the branches of the Institute for Extraterrestrial Cultures. There he worked as a laboratory assistant, and his supervisor was the highly talented scientist Kirill Panov. The protagonist earned a living by venturing into the zone and bringing back various artifacts, which he then handed over to the institute. But everything changed when Panov died. Now Red has a wife, Guta, and a little daughter named Maria, who is a mutant. The girl is completely covered in hair, and her father often affectionately calls her his little monkey. One day, the protagonist meets some familiar stalkers in a bar, who tell him that there are new offers for finding forbidden and very valuable artifacts. Red decides to find the secret artifacts at all costs.
