In the beginning of 2017, a large-scale premiere of the cable TV channel WGN America's "Roadside Picnic" is planned, which has become an adaptation of the eponymous novel by the Strugatsky brothers, who gained fame far beyond the former Soviet space.
As of now, the ratings of the project are unknown and the creators, in the form of the channel management and director Alan Taylor, do not mention anything about the continuation. If the series gathers a following and positive feedback, the second season can be expected in 2018.
What will happen in the second season
This series is set in the not-so-distant future when the human race is visited by aliens whose intentions are never revealed. These beings left home without incident but left behind many strange artifacts. The mysterious objects capture the imagination of ordinary people but possess incredibly dangerous properties. The authorities of our planet immediately fenced off the Zone where the aliens landed, declaring it forbidden. However, the fences are no problem for stalkers - they repeatedly visit this territory and search for hidden treasures. Red is one of the elder statesmen of the stalker movement, and his family is now in danger.
It is notable that the work of Russian writers the Strugatsky brothers is being adapted in the United States, not in Russia. A similar situation occurred with the first printed edition of the work, which did not pass the lengthy bureaucratic procedure in the USSR.
