The TV series "Sherlock" is a modern adaptation of the novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which has already become a classic of detective fiction. Unlike the original, the creators of the project, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, have moved the detectives Holmes and Watson into the 21st century. The show is produced by the "Hartswood Films" studio. The broadcast in Russia is provided by Amedia and the First Channel, which immediately airs a Russian version of the series after the premiere.

The main characters, Doctor John Watson and private detective Sherlock Holmes, are sipping tea on Baker Street 221B. But their peaceful pastime is interrupted by policemen from Scotland Yard. It seems that the station has received a new case, which they are unable to solve on their own. Therefore, they have to seek advice from much more experienced and professional detectives. After agreeing to help, the detectives are taken to the crime scene, where with their perceptiveness and deductive methods they will find clues left by the criminals.
The main roles are played by actors Martin Freeman (as the character Dr. Watson) and Benedict Cumberbatch (as detective Sherlock Holmes), who receive significant awards from film prizes and critics almost after each premiere of a new season. The show is ranked first in the list of the best TV series of 2011 by Kinopoisk.
The modern adaptation of the novel "Sherlock" first premiered on BBC One on July 25, 2010. The mini-series consists of only 15 episodes over 4 seasons.
