In 1992, a married couple moves to a remarkable town hoping to forget about their failures and focus on raising a horde of growing children. Olivia is a talented architect, and her husband is grateful to her for giving birth to five offspring. Hugh hoped to protect the children from any trials but failed. Soon after the move, the Cranes notice that the mysterious mansion holds horrifying secrets. Terrifying things happen inside, frightening the young children to the core. The peak of it all is the sudden suicide of their unfortunate mother. Hugh is unable to determine what happened to his other half. His thoughts are consumed by saving their heirs. Worried, he decides to pack his bags and urgently flee from the cursed house. For many years, the closest relatives have not seen or communicated with their father. The stubborn children have grown up but were hurt by their parents' secrecy and incredible detachment. Each one is preoccupied with their own experiences. Stephen tries to write a novel, Luke tries to overcome drug addiction. Shirley heads up a funeral agency, and Theodora works with young patients as a psychologist. They have to come to the ill-fated estate for the sake of the truth.
