A Russian historical series, written by Alexey Ivanov and directed by Alexey Zaitsev. Famous actors Pavel Tabakov, Dmitry Duzhev, Dmitry Nazarov, and Alexander Mikhailov starred in it.

The series "Tobol" describes events of the Peter the Great era. The territory of Siberia is not well represented in cinematography, so the creators of the TV series tried to shed light on this moment. Special attention was paid to Matvei Gagarin. He was involved in overseeing the construction of hydrolocks in the Nerchinsky Strait. He was implicated in the misappropriation of yasak. Following Matvei, Tsar Peter sent Officer Bibikov to investigate where the collected money was going. Matvei's accomplice, Ivan Nikolaev, went on the run with him. However, in 1708, he was appointed the first governor of Siberia since no evidence of the crime was found (or Matvei managed to expertly conceal it). Another important figure in this story was Semyon Remezov. A well-known cartographer, he compiled maps and laid out routes to previously unknown lands. Where the footsteps of civilized man had not yet trodden. In addition, Semyon became the chief architect who created the first residential houses and government institutions in the conquered territory of Siberia. Their collaboration with Gagarin led to the construction of the city of Tobolsk on the famous river.
