The TV series "Bron/Broen" was a joint project of a Danish and Swedish television channel, released in 2013. The shooting of the third season, in which Kim Bodnia, who played the main role, refused to participate, began in the following year.

One day on the Öresund Bridge, which connected Denmark and Sweden, the electricity goes out. After the problem is fixed, the lights turn back on, and a woman's body is found at the border of the two countries. The victim was Judge Gates, whose body was cut in half. Furthermore, its lower part belonged to another woman who turned out to be Mexican. Two of the most experienced detectives take on the investigation of the crime. The search for the upper fragment of the Mexican woman's body leads the detectives to a strange place, where many other bodies were found. The person who committed the crime leaves a message to the detectives, making it clear that the woman on the bridge is not the last victim. The police have no assumptions about who did it and why. They are convinced that more victims will follow, so they must stop the killer. Additionally, they do not understand what compelled the killer to choose such a gruesome method. They are about to confront a calculating opponent who plans every crime down to the smallest detail.
