On the channel Russia-1 in the spring of 2016, a new TV series "Money" premiered. The show is based on the autobiography of a real counterfeiter who lived in the USSR. The TV series is divided into eight one-hour episodes.

The plot of the show tells the story of the life of a young Soviet scientist, Alexei Barannikov. Suspected of spreading anti-Soviet literature, he is exiled from Moscow to the city of Stavropol together with his future wife, Lyudmila. The actions take place in 1978 and due to the change in location, Alexei has to work as a driver in a local printing house. All the money he earns from transportation, he spends on continuing to create scientific inventions and patents. Therefore, his wife has to work in a hazardous production and soon, driven to despair, she attempts suicide. In light of these events, Barannikov uses a recently created invention to print money. The uniqueness of the young scientist lies in his approach to creating money, which he printed in a small shed. Meanwhile, Vadim Yakushev from the KGB and Nina Filatova from the police are investigating the main culprits of the gang of counterfeiters operating on the territory of the Soviet Union. A romance arises between the main character and the operative Nina, the third participant of which is KGB officer Yakushev.
