Designated Survivor release date
At the end of 2015, the management of the cable network ABC Studios announced that they were going to release the series "Designated Survivor". The new political thriller will be aired starting in the fall of 2016.
The original name of the series, "Designated Survivor," literally translates as "The Appointed Survivor". This concept refers to a situation in which the president and their deputy have died, and a special government employee who is isolated and protected during meetings or events involving the head of state takes their place.
The main character of the series is Tom Kirkman (actor Kiefer Sutherland), who works in the US government. The unsuspecting employee is far from the highest positions in the country. However, during the State of the Union address, the entire top leadership (the president and his immediate successors) is killed in a terrorist attack with an explosion. As a result, by legislative act, all power in the United States falls into his hands. But this turns out to be a heavy burden for Tom, who previously worked far from the political elite. Changes also await the Kirkman family, with his wife becoming the First Lady of the country.
