How the previous season ended

In the last episode of the second season titled "Silent Night," tension between the main characters escalates rapidly. Phil dies during an appendectomy performed by Gail. Melissa and Todd's relationship comes to an end after Todd develops feelings for someone else. A rescue vehicle carrying an astronaut and his worm named Phil detaches from the International Space Station and hurtles towards Earth at a tremendous speed.

The creators of the show have already promised to bring back the 3rd season of the TV series "The Last Man on Earth" in spring 2016. Thus, new seasons of this situational sci-fi comedy appear on air about every six months. The characters of the series will continue their amusing "survival" after the end of the world due to a pandemic. It is possible that the new episodes will introduce additional characters, of which there are already quite a few in the premiere episode of the third season.
