The story of aristocrat Patrick Melrose evokes genuine sympathy and respect. This person has come a long and difficult way from a heroin addict to a decent family man. A troubled childhood, accompanied by parental abuse, sexual violence, and the indifference of his mother, led to serious mental problems. Trying to drown out the pain and suffering, the boy began experimenting with forbidden substances that allowed him to escape reality. Despite growing into an adult body, Patrick continued to be the same unhappy boy from a wealthy family. He traded in his infatuations for more mature and expensive ones, but only spiraled further into the abyss of despair. Heroin addiction became the final stage in his downfall. At this point, to his own happiness, Melrose realizes the full horror of his situation and insists on seeking treatment for his harmful addiction. A long therapeutic course frees the man from destructive habits and allows him to have a chance at a second life.
