"Queen Sugar" is a multi-series drama (TV show), directed by DuVernay and Winfrey. It premiered on September 6, 2016. Originally planned to be released as a miniseries in 2015, the filming had to be extended.
The plot revolves around the lives and problems of the sisters. Their destinies are completely different: Charlie is happily married to a talented athlete - the leader of a basketball team, and she is successful in everything. Nova, the younger sister, sells drugs and leads a frivolous life, not caring about a prosperous future. In a matter of weeks, Charlie's life changes dramatically. Her husband is arrested, accusing the team of raping a girl. However, he insists that he is innocent, but Charlie comes across a disc with evidence proving her husband's guilt. At the same time, their father - the owner of an impressive sugar cane plantation - dies. The woman flies to the state of Louisiana to inherit. What awaits her is a devastated farm, which requires tremendous physical effort and significant financial investments for further livelihood. Going back is absolutely not an option - there is shame waiting for her for her husband's crime, and the woman decides to stay and restore her father's farm.
