The idea of the HBO series belongs to David Lynch and Monty Montgomery, who worked on the plot back in 1993. The Duplass Brothers' project in 2017 is an anthology with a blend of genres, showcasing episodes that are funny, dramatic, and horrifying. The only constant is the setting - Room 104. The thirty-minute stories with various characters aim to tell the tales of travelers arriving at the hotel.

Not far from the airport is an average American hotel. In it, there is an ordinary budget room that sees guests come and go. The fate of each person staying for the night is extraordinary and deserves attention. At first glance, the dull everyday routine is replaced by unexpected comedic or horrific actions. Boredom and dullness leave no trace. The room serves not only for rest but also for rituals, auditions, business deals, in short, unusual encounters. For example, a black American woman named Deborah seeks enlightenment and meets with a dubious spiritual practices expert. Even charlatans earn big money through hard work. A pizza delivery boy, a young guy named Harold, ends up with a strange couple who do not have cash on them but have a tempting offer to try their baked goods.
