Sofiia Season 2

The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation has made a decision to extend the historical series "Sofiia" for a 2nd season, which will be broadcasted in 2017. The production has been entrusted to the film studio "Moskino". The filming is planned in the nearest future.

The premiere of the series took place on Russia-1 channel. The viewer had the opportunity to see the first episode on November 28, 2016. The action of the drama takes place in the second half of the 15th century. These times were very difficult and extremely turbulent for the Russian state. The lands fell under the control of the Mongol-Tatar yoke.

Season 2 Preview

The Moscow Prince, understanding the difficult situation in which his country finds itself, attempts to get out of the crisis by marrying a Byzantine princess. In turn, Sophia had no choice but to accept Ivan III's proposal. After the wedding, the girl sought to support her husband in all his endeavors. The lady herself was not idle. By her efforts, outstanding professionals in their field were convened in Moscow. Many architectural objects, including the Assumption Cathedral, were constructed by the hands of foreign craftsmen. The Empress brought with her ancient folios, gave advice on military administration, took part in the publication of important laws, and thus was able to bring Russia to a new level of development.

The main roles in the film were played by the stars of "The Thaw" Evgeny Tsiganov and Maria Andreeva, known for their work in "The Book of Masters" and "The Black Cat". The shooting also involved Vladas Bagdonas, Alexander Baluyev, Boris Nevzorov, and other equally talented actors.

A total of 8 episodes were filmed. The last of them was aired in early December 2016. The central plot revolves around a high-ranking married couple. Both the ruler of All Russia and his beautiful wife made a significant contribution to strengthening the position of the great power.
