Television producers were so confident in the success of the "The Witcher" project that they announced the start of filming for the second season shortly before the premiere of the first.
The creator of the series, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, announced that the first episode of the second season will be available for viewing on December 17, 2021.
In the center of the plotline is a fearless and strong-willed mutant endowed with supernatural abilities. He is not afraid of difficult paths and achieves his goals.
Plot
In the epicenter of events is a guy from Rivia, who has seen a lot in his lifetime and experienced a lot of difficulties. Fate often threw unpleasant surprises at him. He was able to believe in the triumph of justice thanks to his meeting with his beloved Yennifer. The couple adopted the agile princess Ciri and took guardianship over her.
Episode 1 of Season 2 Announcement
The brave and taciturn hero named Geralt continues to make his way to his goal. His adopted daughter Ciri accompanies him. The young individual is in mortal danger because of her title. On their life journey, the daredevils will meet a cursed scoundrel named Nivellen. They will also come across the cunning Vereena. Each of them will influence their further destiny and force them to make a difficult decision.
Filming
The shooting process was supposed to start in early 2021. But due to the raging pandemic, the filmmakers had to postpone it indefinitely. The work was interrupted several times. Only in spring, an official announcement was made about the cessation of filming.
The premiere episode was decided to be called "A Grain of Truth." It features a quite unusual logo. On it, you can see a winged brook trout. Declan de Barra worked on creating a high-quality script for the episode.
Actors
The casting team approached the selection of actors conscientiously and performed their work at the highest level.
The incomparable Henry Cavill, known for the films "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and "Man of Steel," will return to the role of Geralt.
Paul Bullion, who appeared in the TV show "Patrick Melrose," will play Lambert.
Anya Chalotra, who appeared in the shows "Wanderlust" and "Agatha Christie's ABC Murders," incarnated the image of the majestic sorceress from Vengerberg.
Triss will be played by Anna Shaffer, who was involved in the action-packed thriller "The Adventurer."
Facts about the show:
- Initially, Anya Chalotra was offered to have a body double for scenes of a sexual nature. The actress observed the filming process a little and then decided to shoot the scenes herself. Her only condition was filming above the waist.
- Despite Henry Cavill's strong desire, he did not pass the audition on the first try. After talking to him, two hundred candidates were reviewed. But the final choice was ultimately made in favor of him.
- Andrzej Sapkowski admitted to journalists that he was terribly unhappy with what he saw on the screen. According to him, the work turned out to be quite mediocre and did not meet expectations.
- TV producers chose Hungary as the main location. This decision was explained by three reasons: the affordability of the filming process, already built sets, and a huge amount of suitable nature. Some architectural structures completely fascinated them.
