The central plot revolves around the relationship between two young people who have nothing good to offer. Jimmy is a young writer who is unlucky in work. He doesn't accept any moral norms and values, treats women horribly, and hates the people around him. Gretchen is a sarcastic PR girl who can compete with Jimmy for repugnance. They have nothing in common except for a similar lifestyle of drinking, casual relationships, and hatred towards people. They see each other for the first time at the wedding of one of Jimmy's ex-girlfriends, and that same night they end up in the same bed. Waking up in the morning, they agree to forget about it, but everything goes completely against their plan. The boy and the girl keep running into each other everywhere, and it leads them back to bed. After some time, they even start a relationship. However, neither Gretchen nor Jimmy are suited for love. It becomes difficult for such selfish and corrupt personalities to maintain normal relationships because each of them considers themselves to be always superior and unwilling to compromise with the other's flaws. Sustaining this connection becomes a real problem for them, but living without each other is even harder.
