In early 2015, the premiere of the science fiction TV series "12 Monkeys" took place on the American channel SyFy. The show's script is based on the eponymous film released in 1995 by Terry Gilliam. In addition, the film is also based on a short film released in France called "La Jetée" (from French "The Jetty") from the distant 1962.

The plot unfolds initially in 2013. People living at that time could not even imagine that in a short period of time and due to a global catastrophe, a deadly virus would devastate the Earth. Only a few million people remain on the planet. By the onset of 2043, humans had to hide underground from the lethal virus. There is no chance for the people of the future, so they will attempt to go back in time and alter history. A group of scientists developed a time machine that they plan to use to send a former prisoner named James Cole to 2015 and stop the deadly virus. To do this, he must find the "zero patient," but for now, the only known person involved in spreading the epidemic is Leland Frost. In the past, he meets a bacteriology doctor named Cassandra Railly, from whom he plans to seek help in locating the dangerous pathogen and uncovering the secret of the "twelve monkeys," as it was her audio recordings that led scientists to Frost.
