On the web service Netflix, on December 12, 2014, the premiere of the first season of the adventure series "Marco Polo" took place. The plot of the show is based on the "Book of the Marvels of the World", presented in the 13th century by the Italian traveler and merchant of the same name.

The events of the script transport viewers to the 13th century. The Venetian merchant and sailor Marco Polo, along with his father, set off on a journey to the Far East. Upon arrival in China, the Europeans find themselves in the court of the Mongol ruler Kublai Khan in the city of Shangdu, which was ruling the country at that time. In order to obtain the right to trade and travel along the Silk Road, Marco's senior Polo leaves his son to serve the Khan. The young and ambitious traveler learns the local culture and traditions, and also becomes closer to Kublai. Involuntarily, Marco becomes one of the central figures in the political intrigues for power in China. His presence at the court of Kublai Khan lasted nearly 17 years and became one of the most discussed adventure stories described in books. Historians from all over the world still argue about the truthfulness and authenticity of the texts written in the 13th century, which became a guide to Asia for most of the subsequent European travelers.
