Christy Plunkett is a single mother who has spent a considerable amount of time living without concern for her reputation or financial well-being. The reason for this behavior, according to the woman, is her difficult youth and her mother's mistakes, as she never cared for her daughter and only prioritized her own interests. Now, the woman has given up destructive habits and is striving to bring order to her life by working as a simple waitress in a quiet port town called Napa Valley. She is focused on raising her seventeen-year-old daughter, Violet, and attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. On the personal front, things are not going well for her, as her only suitor is her married boss, who is considered a model family man. Soon, Christy finds herself overwhelmed with a heap of problems. Suddenly, her long-absent mother, Bonnie, who hasn't thought about her child's fate for many years, disrupts her familiar life, and her daughter presents her with a quite unexpected surprise – she is pregnant by her boyfriend, Luke.
