"The Wizard of Lies" is an American TV film directed by Barry Levinson ("Rain Man", "Sleepers"), scheduled to premiere in 2017 on the cable channel HBO. The leading roles in the film are played by cinema superstars Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer, who portray the married couple Bernard and Ruth Madoff.

The film, based on real events, tells the story of Bernard "Bernie" Madoff, a scam artist who became internationally infamous, and whose financial pyramid scheme changed the economic landscape of the United States and many other countries. Bernie Madoff is a brilliant analyst, who thanks to his unique intellect, earns good money. One day, he realizes that "good" can turn into "huge", and with the support of his beloved wife Ruth, he creates a clever pyramid scheme that eventually brings the Madoffs unimaginable wealth. In addition to this, the couple engages in small scams, money laundering, perjury, and other crimes, evading the authorities. Will Bernie and Ruth be able to continue their illegal activities throughout their lives, without being caught, or will they eventually face the consequences of their audacious actions?"
