Channel ABC will release the second season of the show "When We Rise" by the end of 2018, if the cable network executive approves the filming of the continuation. The premiere date of the first season has been announced and is set for January 9, 2017. Initially, the show was intended for only one part.
The theme addressed in screenwriter Dustin Lance Black's project is quite specific - it is the relationships between same-sex individuals. The main characters portray a situation based on personal experience: how difficult it is to survive in society when you have a non-traditional orientation. Every person has the chance, right, and opportunity to express themselves in any way that is convenient for them. But society does not always allow you to be yourself.
What will happen in the 2nd season
The plot unfolds in the late 1960s in the United States, where the struggle for the rights of sexual minorities in society begins in full swing. Each character in the show has their own storyline: Cleve Jones fights for the freedoms and rights of gays in the state of Arizona, while Vietnam War veteran Ken Jones continues his struggle against injustices directed at HIV-infected individuals. But fighting for freedoms in the middle of the past century in the "land of the free" is no joke. Thanks to these actions, America is now one of the most progressive and liberal countries in the world in the 21st century.
The actors involved in the main roles include Rachell Griffiths, Bruce Blaine, Guy Pearce, Mary-Louise Parker, and others. These people did not fear the resonance of participating in a project of this nature. Thanks to their performances, they managed to educate and convert some people who did not support same-sex relationships, into at least supporters of the issue, if not followers.
The script for "When We Rise" was written by Dustin Lance Black. The mini-series, which consists of 8 hour-long episodes, will premiere on 9.01.2017 on the ABC channel and will be broadcast on Mondays for two months.
