The Handmaid's Tale release date

Starting from April 26, 2017, the first season of the TV series "The Handmaid's Tale" premiered on the American service "Hulu". The creators based the screenplay on the eponymous story by renowned writer Margaret Atwood. The new series was directed by Reed Morano and Mike Barker.

The plot is set in the near future in the fictional state of Gilead. In this imagined country, there are harsh laws, and constant conflicts lead to a society where only officer ranks enjoy respect and privilege. The main problem for the population is low population growth, with only every hundredth woman being able to bear a child, mostly from the common people. If soldiers learn that a girl is capable of conceiving and giving birth to a healthy baby, she automatically becomes a surrogate mother. All "incubators" are confined in a special room resembling a prison cell, and the women carrying children know that immediately after birth, their babies will be given to a family from the upper class whose wife lacks reproductive function. But there are servant girls who disagree with this state of affairs. Offred will soon give birth and she tries to fight against the principles of Gilead, but for a future mother, this is a difficult task, especially if she is under the complete control of the government.
